Blur at Walthamstow Stadium

Released in the summer of 1994 Blur's album Parklife features two racing greyhounds on the front cover and the four band members standing track-side at Walthamstow stadium on the back cover.

The 5000 capacity stadium opened in 1933. It closed it's doors in 2008 after being purchased by property developers. The last greyhound race took place 14 years after the release of Parklife on 16 August 2008.

Blur's lead singer Damon Albarn spent his early childhood living in Waltham Forest's Leytonstone, leaving to move to Essex when he was 9 years old.

The front facia of Walthamstow stadium has been listed and will be retained and incorporated into the property developers plans, bringing rather un-glamourous residential property to the iconic site.

In 2006 a worldwide poll of 40,000 music fans was conducted by NME. Parklife placed at number 34 and in 2010 the album cover was among ten chosen to be featured by the Royal Mail on their classic album stamps.

Blur have gone on to become one of Britain's most successful bands with five number one albums in the UK. Parklife was their first.
